You should read as much material on as many philosophies as you can before making up your mind. As for me I used to be a member of the Joy of Satan but have become an apostate since then. My personal opinion is, why subscribe to a specific sect or philosophy? Why not be a sect-less Satanist? Why not be a free thinker?

With the CoS it should also be noted that Lavey used the work of Crowley as inspiration as well. However Lavey removed all the spirituality out of the concept of the LHP. Crowley's group the Silver Star was based on moving the kundalini energy up from the root chakra to the crown. That is why the CoS really does not go anywhere beyond ritual magic. But the serpent wand is the key to magic for a reason.

What do you mean by atheist? Do you mean the neo-atheists who are materialists and don't believe in anything spiritual or the traditional definition of just not believing in a theistic creator god?
