The JoS is a pyramid system like any other cult. The leaders like HP Hooded Cobra are at the top receiving "divine guidance". By his actions with censorship and mind control you can clearly see that he is also corrupt. When an individual questions the authority of the divine leadership, they will employ all measures to silence that individual. In Zola and Don's case it was a combination of censorship, fabricated rumors and invasion of privacy to damage their reputations.

Cult leaders like HP Hooded Cobra know that people judge hastily, out of context, without hearing the whole story and sometimes with hypocrisy. Just because we know some personal details about someone’s life doesn’t mean that we have enough information to make a fair judgement. Maybe not even then. When you believe something so much. You become biased. You will tend to refute knowledge that is their in favour of what you believe is correct.
You also get emotional when your beliefs are questioned. And if you cant take a step back and look at it without that emotional outburst you might do something you regret.
