I am not surprised by this Germany was a Christian nation and even Hitler went to a Catholic run school. The Churches had total control over society. It would make sense they would maintain their emotional attachments to it to some degree. And want to racialize to make it more appealing to their instincts. Its the times they lived in.

I think the reality is they just didn't have a complete understanding of things (as do neither of us quite frankly). People want to act like Hitler came down from the sky or him and his boys just found a book in some random library revealing every truth of the universe or some guru who knew all, but they were all learning along the way just like all of us are. on top of the other immense responsibilities they all had.
