Soul Eaters at Death

First off, thanks for setting up this forum and website. Coming from a lot of other spiritual wanderings, it's nice to find this type of approach and resources. Still going through the videos and forum, but I wanted to see if anyone has thoughts on the idea that when we physically die, there may be beings waiting to attack us?
From what I understand, that moment at death is key regardless of what tradition, religion, or whatever you believe. The reason I ask, is about two years ago I did Iboga in a ceremonial setting and on my third journey I saw something which started me down this path.
Obviously the Abrahamic religions have the concept of tollhouses/veils on the way to heaven, but then the Gnostics have the Archons/planets that you need to get past to reach the escape. Even the Semitic groups in the area, like Mandeans have the fear of getting attacked at death.
I recently started looking into how Buddhists view this too. The Book of the Dead is focused on that bardo period and famously advises to stay away from the bright light. However, the Pure Land claims a retinue of attendants and Amitabha will visit you and usher you away at death (never mind that fact that he is by definition not a human or even from Earth).
A lot of new agey stuff is pretty cringe, but my interest was again recently piqued by authors talking about aliens/shadows/etc attacking us at death and that the goal is to break through (e.g. Dr. Corrado Malanga, Castaneda, Gurdjieff, respectively).
My take away from the past couple years is to meditate and build up the self to basically be ready to storm the beach on the other side, but I just wanted to see if there are any good resources that others have come across with regards to this. Thanks!
